Error 18456 State 6

Hi,

I am trying to connect to a remote SQL server via Management Studio. I am using the windows credentials I use to log into the computer but when I enter the same domain\username and password I get error 18456. I check the logs and see it is a state 6 error. After checking http://blogs.msdn.com/sql_protocols/archive/2006/02/21/536201.aspx I see that means

Attempt to use a Windows login name with SQL Authentication

Is it possible for me to access a SQL server remotely?

From your description, I would assume that you chose “SQL Server Authentication” and provided a user name that was a Windows user name, correct? “SQL Server Authentication” is used only for principals whose information is completely under the control of the SQL Server instance (i.e. the SID, login and password are only valid to SQL Server).

When using Windows authentication the server will use the Windows token from your client program (in this case Management Studio) to authenticate the connection, without the need to type any login or password.

When you connect to SQL Server using Management Studio, make sure you choose the option “Windows Authentication” for the “Authentication” value, the user name and password fields should be grayed out.

Hi,
I'm getting the following error message:

Could not start the SQLServerAgent Serviceon local computer
Error 1068 : The dependency service or group failed to
start
)
This server is a subscriber in a transactional replication
and it was working until yesterday.
Does anybody have a solution.

I read the articles you mentioned, and as I understood,
the resolution is:
(To resolve the problem, use these steps:
Change the startup account of both the MSSQLSERVER and
SQLServerAgent to use the Local System account.
Restart the computer. )
As I told you before, the problem is that I can not start
the 'SqlServer' and 'SqlServer agent', so I cann't go and
change the startup account. I don't know, I may be
confused, but I just encountered this Error (Error 1068)
while starting up the SQLServer.

Error "Physical Database Not found" When Loading Report

Hi, i'm using CR 8.5, vb6, using acces 2000, data environment and win xp.
i have installed my application to another computer, which use win98 and don't have access 2000.
when i'm installing my application i got this error message "craxddrt failed to register" and then i select ignore to continue the installation...
when i run my application and loading report i got this error message "Physical database not found"
my question is
is the first error is causing the second error? or the database path that im using is not right?
i already tried to install seagate crystal report on the computer but when installing it also have the same error, error 1904 failed to register craxddrt.dll..

In the Menu, Goto Database-->Verify Database and configure it|||hi, thx btw,
i already select the menu and then verify database, so i select my recordset from my data environment and it is up to date....
and still got the error message, :(|||Goto Database-->Set DataSource Location and configure the DB|||already but still the same, i've installed into 2 computer, the one is with win xp and office 2002 which is success and the second is win 98 with no access application which show this error. but i have installed mdac 2.8 and jet engine 4 sp for win 98 and vb runtime sp5, even seagate crystal report 8.5 it self.,??|||I Already solved it.. thx btw.
some dll files which i included when installing my program is xp/nt version, so it become problems when i'm installing it to win 98..
so then i replace my included dll files xp/nt version with dll files from win 98 version...and it works..:D

a local copy of the front end on their computer. I have a function set up to
read data off a CD and import it to the system -- this function works on all
computers except one. On the problematic machine, I keep getting Error 8152

'/01/' + SUBSTRING([Pub Date], 3, 4)"
What is happening here is that a number of date fields come into the system
in mm/yyyy format. This causes some problems, so I loaded them into a temp
table as a string, and am inserting 01 for the day in the middle. Once that'

complete I'll cast it into a datetime and append the records to the live
data. As I said, this all works for every computer but one. The machine in
question has all the correct Access references, and the user is a member of
the correct group and has all the privileges he needs. Is anyone familiar

The date format you are using is not a portable format. For a date-only
value, you should use:
YYYYMMDD

type varchar. I handle the date conversion later. Also, the code works just
fine on all the computers except one.
I did some more investigating and discovered that when I try to load data
using the problem computer, the system creates and saves copies of the temp
tables I use for data import and manipulation. All other users re-use the
previously defined tables. The new user-specific temp tables default to data
type nvarchar, rather than varchar. When I switched the appropriate fields
from nvarchar to varchar the code worked fine. Go figure.
