Error 18456, State 28000

Hello,
Running SQL Server 2000... I've installed a new instance of this on a new
server (to migrate from server1 to server2).
On server1, i have a group set up (domain/SQLGroup)...
On server2, i have the exact same group set up... unfortunately all the
users in this group doesn't get recognized by my new sql installation. I
get the error above (SQL Error 18456, State '28000')..
I can change permissions for all the users in this group to have "Domain
Admins", but obviously i don't want to do that... by doing this though, all
access works as before...
SP4 is installed on server2, but not on server1...
Does anyone have any suggestions on how to proceed with this?
Thanks.One thing i should add about this...
Server1 is the Domain Controller...running sbs2000 (windows 2000 server).
Server2 is just windows 2003, and is dedicated to sql server 2000...

Error 1717? Need Help

We began experiencing a problem with our sql7 instance
running on nt4. For reasons unknown, we see a 1717 logged
and the server goes down. I was unable to find anything
in kb.
Any info out there?
ThanksMost likely it is not a SQL Server issue.
Error 1717 means NT starting shutdown process and SQL Server wasn't stoped
first.
So try to find the process which is starting to shutdown your Windows NT.
Do you have an UPS on this NT Server ? If yes do you have an automatic
shutdown software installed ?
Try to look at this side. Also if it is try to check the cable connection
between NT Server and UPS.

I have Sql 2000 Server Sp4 with two instances from some day the Sql server

Error 1603 on Installation

The SQL Server installation has no default instance. It has an instance
called Reports. On installing RS it allowed selecting an instance so I
thought that everything was fine. When it came to configuring SQL Server
portion of the RS install I got an error 1603. This is Windows 2003 Server
and SQL Server 2000 Standard version 8.00.859
Any ideas of what to do?
Bruce L-CNevermind. I unistalled everything, cleaned up the registry and left over
files. Went into windows 2003 application server configuration and made sure
had everything. Reinstalled SQL Server default install and this time it
worked. Now everything went smoothly with RS installation. I think it didn't
like have no default installation for SQL Server.

Error 15401

Hi folks,
When using the "Enterprise Manager" to add logins to a SQL Server
instance, I'm running into an error 15401. Before I get too far, let me
describe the environment I'm doing this in:
We have two domains:
Domain A is an old NT 4 style domain.
Domain B is a new Active Directory domain powered by Windows Server 2003
running in the "Windows Server 2003" domain functional level.
We're in the process of transitioning from Domain A (with the hopes of
retiring the domain soon), to Domain B. As such, currently, there is a
two trusts between Domain A and Domain B (going in each direction).
On Windows Server 2003 machine on Domain B, I've installed SQL Server
2000, and have it patched to SP4. I've set up a new database on this
SQL server (running as a standard domain B user), and was in the process
of adding logins for it when I encountered the error 15401. Precisely
what I was doing was using the Enterprise Manager on the server directly
to add logins, specifically I was trying to add a few groups from Domain
A to the databse. This is where the error crops up.
(I should note, adding users of Domain B is not a problem, that
functions correctly.)
So, I started troubleshooting, and in doing so, looked over this document:

None of the situations described in that document apply. There is no
possability of duplicate logins, as this is a new install of SQL Server,
and a freshly created database (just to be sure tho, I manually examined
the syslogin tables in the master db).
There is no problem with the Domain Trust, as the Enterprise Manager on
the same machine as SQL Server is on, can display a list of groups and
accounts from both Domain A and Domain B, not to mention people can from
Domain A can connect to shares offered on the Window Server without trouble.
I've also read that its possible that SQL Server internally caches SIDs,
so I rebooted both the server, and the PDC for Domain A, as well as the
domain controllers for Domain B, with no success.
One additional symptom (not knowing how else to describe it). When an
ASP page, running as a user from Domain A, attempts to connect to the
database in Domain B, it gets a "Login failed for user 'derek'.", even
though the page is running as "A\scott". So where it gets "derek" from,
I haven't even a slightest clue.
If anyone has any ideas or help, it would be greatly appreciated.

Do you see any network issues between Principal and mirror?

Explain when and where you are getting this error and if this is during the failover then work around for this problem:

1. Restart the SQL Server service on the mirror server. 2. Wait for the databases to be synchronized. 3. Issue the failover command again.

If there is an issue with NIC on the servers that are in DBMirroring then you would see these alerts.

Error -133 on installing Service Pack 4 for SQL7

Hallo, my problem is to upgrade instance of SQL7 to SQL7 SP4.

Server is WIN2K SP4 + MDAC 2.8 SP1

Installing the SQL7 Server from CD is OK.

When i try to apply the SQL7 SP4 the first fase, when SP4 checks all conditions to start is OK, when start to copy file i receive an error -113 like this

On server is installed the library SQLDMO.DLL for SQL2000 but only the library used by an application VB6.

In need to install SQL7 and i can't install SQL2000 or SQL2005 because we work with an application written for SQL7. I've tried to migrate application SQL2000 but not work properly.

Have you got or already installed SQL 7 on this machine?

If there are instances running for SQL 2000 and 2005 then you may not be able to install previous version of SQL until unless these are uninstalled.

It might be a problem with SP4 files, try to download again and apply.

trying to start it again. What are you doing when this error occurs?
You may have your SQL Server set up to start automatically when the computer
restarts. If you then run a program or a command-line utility that issues
a NET START MSSQLServer command, you will get this error.

Error "System.NullReferenceException" on Update

Hello Everyone,

I am getting this error "System.NullReferenceException: Object reference not set to an instance of an object." when i try to run the update query as in my following code.

When the new record condition is true then the code runs absolutely fine and inserts a new record to the database. However, when it goes in the edit mode to update the record it gives an error at '## ERROR POINT FOR THE UPDATE QUERY'. This looks like a dual post. Here was my response for that one.
You should try looking in the SSRS logs to see if it gives you any
descriptive information (normally located in: C:\Program Files
\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL.2\Reporting Services\LogFiles ). If you
cannot resolve the issue by looking at the logs, you should look into
reinstalling SSRS. Hope this helps.
