Thanks anyway for you help.

Error 1603 on Installation

The SQL Server installation has no default instance. It has an instance
called Reports. On installing RS it allowed selecting an instance so I
thought that everything was fine. When it came to configuring SQL Server
portion of the RS install I got an error 1603. This is Windows 2003 Server
and SQL Server 2000 Standard version 8.00.859
Any ideas of what to do?
Bruce L-CNevermind. I unistalled everything, cleaned up the registry and left over
files. Went into windows 2003 application server configuration and made sure
had everything. Reinstalled SQL Server default install and this time it
worked. Now everything went smoothly with RS installation. I think it didn't
like have no default installation for SQL Server.

'Error 14274' - Cannot add, update, or delete a job (or its steps or schedules) that ori

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;281642
I followed the tip above but it didn't work. anyone know of other workaround
?
I restore a copy of my Production DB on a TestDB, the scheduled jobs get
copied over as well. Cannot removed these job frm the Test DB because of
error 14274.
I logon the Test DB on workgroup, rename to original server name (on
workgroup because the Production still exist on the network), tried to
delete the jobs, SQL doesn't allow also. At the moment, I stopped the SQL
Agent Service to prevent the jobs frm running.
How to remove the jobs in the Test DB for good ?Don't bother with the rename stuff. Simply update the originating_server
column to reflect the new server name.
Have a look at http://sqldev.net/download/sqlagent/sp_sqlagent_rename.sql

error 14269

Hi
When i am changing the owner which is the default owner
for SQL Agent Job, I am getting error as
Error 14269: Job 'DB Maintenance Plan ' ia already
targteted at server xxxxxxx.
The jobs are failing becuase of other user created the
jobs.
Thanks,
John.Have you renamed this server? I'd check the value of the
originating_server in msdb..sysjobs to make sure it's
correct.

Error : Cannot open user default database. Login failed.

I work with Microsoft visual studio 2005.
i get data from a table by ADO.NET :

SqlConnection sqlConn = new SqlConnection(strConnectionString);
sqlConn.Open();
.....

it works fine.

but when i open the SQL Server 2005 express edition and connect to the server (inside the same computer) to check something and then get back to the VS and run the code again ,the Open() function fails with the exception :

{"Cannot open user default database. Login failed.\r\nLogin failed for user 'DOMAIN\\asaf_a'."

disconnecting the server doesn't help and even closing the SQL Server 2005 application doesn't help.
Only restarting the computer enables the Open() command to work again.

Why ?

Every user has a default database specified. If you are using a SQLConnectinstring you are normally redirecting the user within the connectionstring to a specific database (Initial Catalog). By connecting with another tool which does not have the availbility to choose a starting database the user is redirected to its "home" / default database. If the database was dropped in the meantime, or the user was denied access / or even not granted, the login procedure will fail. You can set the user defaults database with using the procedure sp_defaultdb or by using any gui which can administer the logins.

Thanks jens,

i solved the problem.

It was my connection string all along. it was wrong. This was the problem.

I changed the connection string from :

string strConnectionString = @."Server=.\SQLTESTING;AttachDbFilename=C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL.3\MSSQL\Data\TestDB.mdf;Integrated Security=SSPI";

To :

string strConnectionString = @."Server=.\SQLTESTING;Integrated Security=TRUE;Database=TestDB";

now i can use (Open) the TestDB Database from the VS code even when the SQL Server 2005 is also connected to this database.

Thanks!

Error "-2147168246 (8004d00a)" Failed to Enlist on Calling Object'

I checked what suggested with
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;191168.
The pingtest results are OK.
Is there any other check to do in order to solve this problem?
Thanks,
LucaHi
What about the other suggestions in the 191168 or
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/193893/EN-US/
Which version of MDAC are you using?
Are you using Oracle?

Server running our SQL Server 2000 SP3 database server. Transactions from
our Windows 2000 Server SP4 application server give the same exact error. It
is basically a VB application trying to connect to the application database.
Ping tests work fine. DTC tests fail with same error.
