error 16389
Hello,
We have a active x script that has been running for weeks from sql server
agent and all of sudden last night we are receiving "ActiveScripting specific
error 16389 occurred" on the jobs. I have search both BOL and newsgroups but
not finding anything that is giving me any help on this. Has anyone seen
this before, is so what step are need to be performed to troubleshoot the
issue.
The sql server that we are running this from is central DBA sql server
connecting to both production and non-production servers via SQL-DMO trusted
connections and extracting scripts for object generation.Stopping and starting SQL Agent has fixed the issue. What could have caused
this issue?

Error 0X8007042B while restarting SQLServer Agent 2005
Apologies for cross posting wasn't sure which group does this belong.
Hi,
I have just moved SQL Server 2005 to a new domain and am getting an error
with Error code 0X8007042B while trying to restart SQL Server agent. The
message in Errorlog says
SQLServerAgent couldn't be started (reason SQLServer Agent must be able to
conenct to SQLServer as SysAdmin but "(Unknown)" is not a member of Sysadmin
role.
The account under which SQLServer agent is set to run indeed a member of
the Sysadmin role. I have also tried to run SQLServer Agent under the bulitIn\Administrator
as well as domain\Administrator user and get the same error. I also get the
same error while trying to run the SQL Server agent under local System or
network services user. The SQL Server service is currently running under
Domain\Administrator account.
I am using Windows 2003 SP 1 and SQL Server 2005 EE SP 1.
I saw some references on the web about running into this error while starting
SQL Server instance but nothing about SQL Server agent. Can someone please
help?
Any helps gratefully acknowledged.
Cheers
Annon
Is this start account a member of the local administrators group?
What security authentication is the SQL instance configured to use? Is it
Windows or Mixed?

Hello Uri,
The machine was shut down when it was moved to new location.
I started to get this error after I turned on the machine and noticed that
SQL Server Agent was not running and when I tried to restart it.

I won't be able to reboot the machine until later, I will try to reboot in
about 6 hours time and see if this solves the problem.

Hi Uri,
SQL Server is already configured to use mixed mode authentication. I also
tried by creating a new user, adding this new user to the Administrator group
and then added this user to serverAdmin/Sysadmin group in SQL Server. I still
get the same error.
Funny thing is I moved two SQL Server machines, one of them is running just
fine without any problem.
The machine in question never had any problems - It was running for last
145 days w/o any problem at all. Fairly strange.
Tnx

I have just moved SQL Server 2005 to a new domain and am getting an error
with Error code 0X8007042B while trying to restart SQL Server agent. The
message in Errorlog says
SQLServerAgent couldn't be started (reason SQLServer Agent must be able to
conenct to SQLServer as SysAdmin but "(Unknown)" is not a member of Sysadmin
role.
The account under which SQLServer agent is set to run indeed a member of
the Sysadmin role. I have also tried to run SQLServer Agent under the bulitI
n\Administrator
as well as domain\Administrator user and get the same error. I also get the
same error while trying to run the SQL Server agent under local System or
network services user. The SQL Server service is currently running under
Domain\Administrator account.
I am using Windows 2003 SP 1 and SQL Server 2005 EE SP 1.
I saw some references on the web about running into this error while startin
g
SQL Server instance but nothing about SQL Server agent. Can someone please
help?
Any helps gratefully acknowledged.
CheersAnnon
Is this start account a member of the local administrators group?
What security authentication is the SQL instance configured to use? Is it
Windows or Mixed?

Error '0x8000ffff' occurred during full-text index population
I have a nightly job scheduled by the SQL Agent scheduler to run full-text
creations nightly, and I have noticed that the following error message
appears during the process of trying to index a number of tables (but not
all).
can someone please provide some advice as to what might be causing this
error to occur - and what I should be looking at to resolve this issue.

Andy,
Do the SQL logs report any more information, or the Windows Event Logs?
Error '0x8000FFFF' (2147549183) often means "Unexpected failure", so
additional information from the logs might help.

Unfortuanately the event logs tell me to look at the full crawl logs - and
it is the full crawl logs which have this error code contained within them.
If, as you suggest the code is a non specific one, how on earth am I going
to track down what is causing the error to be thrown in the first place!!
Thanks for your response - any other suggestions very welcome

I scoured my various crawl logs to see if I ever got the same message, but I
have not. I see that missing iFilters are an 'expected' error and are
reported on properly, etc, etc. through the problems that came to my mind.
Do the files that produce these errors remain the same from day to day? Do
they share any characteristic in common, such as file type, length of file
name, directory nesting, embedded bitmaps, etc? I have not a clue as to
what is wrong, but any information that gives a hint would help.

I am having this error from agent. Does anybody have any idea what this error means or is it sevear or not?
Thank you
asa.:)Please Help!!!!|||By default, the messenger service is disabled on Windows XP and Server 2003 as a securiy precaution. In most cases, this is a good thing. Unless you clearly understand the implications, do NOT start the Messenger service.
My advice is to disable Windows messaging for any SQL Agent Operators that have Windows messaging enabled.

Manish,
the only time I've seen the error above was when the system was so corrupted
that I installed the latest sp once again then everything was OK. In the log
file there are a variety of errors including "Another merge agent for the
subscription(s) is running" which can be to do with activeX controls running
or hung processes but let's wait and see if anyone else has more specific
information on the main error, and if not then I'd apply the service pack.
Regards,
Paul Ibison
|||Hi Manish,
I learned when I synchronize the servers you got the following error:
"The merge process could not initialize the Publisher
'ECOSYSTEM:MLEcosystem'."
After reviewing the log file, I noticed the following error message.

It is suspected that this problem is caused by the orphaned process. Please
try the following steps and check to see if it able to fix your problem.
1. In Enterprise Manager, under "Replication Monitor", Go to "Agents"
folder, Look for your failing Agent there. Right Click and Stop the agent
if it is in a retrying status.
2. Under Enterprise Manager, under "Replication Monitor", Go to "Agents"
folder, right click on the failing agent, choose Agent, properties. From
the Agent properties dialog box, copy the name of the agent.
3. In the Query Analyzer, modify Your_Agent_Name with the name from the
previous step in the following command and execute:
Select spid from sysprocesses where program_name = 'Your_Agent_Name'
4. Obtain the spid from the output, and use the Kill command to kill that
orphan process:
Kill spid
5. Restart the applicable agent.
What's the result?
Also, such issues tend to be complex and take up extensive research time.
I'd like to set your expectations that it may take a while for us to help
you narrow down the problem and we may eventually redirect you to PSS to
continue working with a dedicated Support Professional. If this is
critical, I'd recommend contacting PSS and opening a Support incident
troubleshoot this further. If you need any help in this regard, please let
me know.

|||Hi Paul,
Thank you for the message.
I have been trying to sync these desperately for the last few hours. What I did was I was clicking on the Start Synchronizing at the subscriber in EM, and kept on querying my publisher database from the subscriber. At times my queries used to take around
30 seconds to return 5 rows (3 columns) while under normal circumstances it would take less than a second. And whenever this problem used to happen the sync used to give some error or the other.
Below are some more entries from my log file

I have specified the value for LoginTime to 3000 and QueryTimeOut to 3000. Also I have changed the DownloadGenerationsPerBatch, UploadGenerationsPerBatch and releated parameters to 5.
Do you think I should try a reinstall of SP3 on the subscriber?
Please advise. Thank you.

Manish
|||Yuan's reply (below) makes sense to me. I mentioned ActiveX controls because this is one circumstance where an agent can be started programmatically, preventing your agent from working. If you can get hold of the erroring agent's process this could be kil
led like Yuan says. My suggestion is a bit of a sledgehammer and is one I have seen used before for this error, but in this circumstance it shouldn't be necessary to go this far, and I am not convinced that there is an actual corruption that is fixed, rat
her the reinstallation of the service pack simply removes problematic hung processes as a side-effect. From your explanation it sounds like this is a sporadic error, which is worrying. Anyway, I'd apply Yuan's reasoning and make sure that you don't have a
ny merge agent being started programmatically form legacy code.

Paul Ibison
|||Hi Paul,
I am trying to implement Yuan's suggestion also.
But the thing is my servers synchronize based on synronichation scheduled via SQL Server. There is no possibility of any legacy code calling the merge agent.
Also, I did try a reinstall of SP3 on my subscriber. It didn't solve the problem though.
I am at present trying to implement Yuan's suggestion. I will post an update on the same later.
I would be highly obliged if you have any other suggestion though.
Thank you.
Regards,
Manish

Manish,
the only time I've seen the error above was when the system was so corrupted
that I installed the latest sp once again then everything was OK. In the log
file there are a variety of errors including "Another merge agent for the
subscription(s) is running" which can be to do with activeX controls running
or hung processes but let's wait and see if anyone else has more specific
information on the main error, and if not then I'd apply the service pack.

Paul Ibison
|||Hi Manish,
I learned when I synchronize the servers you got the following error:

If you need any help in this regard, please let
me know.

Michael Shao

|||Hi Paul,
Thank you for the message.

Regards,
Paul Ibison
|||Hi Paul,
I am trying to implement Yuan's suggestion also.
Thank you.
Regards,
Manish
